We normally like to have a big party in the month of September to mark our anniversary and we would celebrate with a big tasting of around 50 wines in a London venue. Given the current situation we've had to think outside of the wine crate and so to celebrate the 6th we will be running 6 tastings that will be showcasing 6 wines on a variety of themes close to HG’s heart.
We always like to keep your palate on its toes (sic) so this will showcase 6 new wines discoveries that have recently been added to the HG selection. Now that we have been reacquainted with some old classics it’s time to highlight another Honest Grapes skill, unearthing fantastic new discoveries for you, leading you through 2 whites and 4 reds that will expand your palate’s repertoire.
Antistiana Xarel·lo, 2017 (100ml)
We start with a white many won't have tasted in a still wine format. Xarel·lo is responsible for making the questionable sparkling Cava. In the hands of the of Mas Comptal winery, the Antistiana made from very old vines is a real eye-opener.
Henschke Julius Riesling, 2017 (100ml)
We continue our white vinous journey with a visit to Henschke in Australia once again but this time to highlight an excellent new discovery for us - the Henschke Julius Riesling (let's just say even Nathan likes it…high praise indeed!)
Celler Alimara Pinzellada Negre, 2016 (100ml)
Moving onto reds the discoveries continue with the wonderful Pinzellada Negre, part of the new range from Celler Alimara. This is a blend of 74% Carignan and 26% Grenache with grapes are sourced from old vines aged between 30-40 years old in the region of Terra Alta, it's rich an intense and delicious
Poggio Argentiera, PoggioRaso Cabernet Franc, 2017 (100ml)
...then onto a knockout Cabernet Franc from smack in the middle of Chianti country, the PoggioRaso Cabernet Franc from Poggio Argentiera is one of our newest discoveries and we are very excited to show it to you.
Post Scriptum De Chryseia, 2018 (100ml)
We will then be tasting a wine that is a wonderful example of a Bordeaux winemaker, making a wine using the local grapes found in the Douro valley of Portugal and producing a stunningly polished plush red. The Prats and Symington Post Scriptum is the result and it’s going to impress.
PerSe Volare del Camino, 2016 (100ml)
Finally, we have an Argentine Malbec but not as you know it! Made by the amazing wine duo Edy del Popolo and David Bonomi, that literally have wine running through their veins; PerSe Volare del Camino is the newest creation from their tiny plot in some of the highest vineyards in the Uco Valley at over 1450m above sea level. It's most definitely a “wow” wine to finish on.
Ticket price includes the 6x100ml sample-sized bottles, sent to you in advance. Joining instructions and Zoom meeting link will be emailed one day before the event.
