This webinar course examines sweet and fortified wines. We will taste and discuss the most important examples in each style in order to identify their defining characteristics, and learn how to tell them apart from other, similar styles.
In this session we discuss and taste four fortified wines from Spain and Portugal. We will discuss what their main identifying characteristics are, and how to distinguish them. We will taste the wines below, with suggestions for wines to purchase in parentheses.
- Amontillado sherry
- Oloroso sherry
- Rainwater or any other blended Madeira based on the Tinta Negra Mole variety (e.g. Henriques and Henriques 'Dry' or 'Rich' wines; Blandy's Sussex/Cumberland/Clarence)
- Sercial or Verdelho Madeira (any age)"
