Art and alcohol historian Lucas Livingston leads a lively exploration about the artistry and history of drinking culture around the world and across the centuries. We explore ancient drinking games, psychology of intoxication, and curious customs, whose uncanny origins may have left their mark on modern times. Raise a glass to the original oenophiles and bygone beer snobs as we enjoy a curated tasting of historically relevant wine and craft beer, while debating how today's potent potables compare to the nectars of ancient gods and divine emperors. About Lucas: Years ago, in an effort not to be the first one voted off the island, Lucas Livingston began brewing beer inspired by historic recipes, narratives, and traditions … strictly for research, of course. He has spoken on the history of beer and wine at Goose Island Brewpub, the Chicago Brewseum, the Oriental Institute, Art Institute of Chicago, New York University, Field Museum of Natural History, University of Hawaii, and the Society for Creative Anachronism. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Brewseum and volunteers as their “Zoom master” for virtual learning during the pandemic. In his spare time between brewing, drinking, and talking about the history of alcohol, Lucas is the creator and host of the Ancient Art Podcast at ancientartpodcast.org. His creative exploits in brewing archaeology as the curator of experimental libations can be found at MorgueBrewing.com. To put food on the table, Lucas is a career professional in art history, museum education, creative aging, and disability activism, having previously directed the Art Institute of Chicago’s therapeutic, health, and wellness opportunities for nearly two decades."
