Following on from our previous sell-out Lidl Wine Tour Tastings we’ll be back again! Since Lidl will have just launched the latest Wine Tour, it’s the time to be amongst the first to check out their latest offerings and what better way than to do so with their Lead Taster Master of Wine Richard Bampfield?
As we’re all aware Lidl have some cracking wines at cracking prices. Every few months they have a special “Wine Tour” and the latest tour, launching on 23 July will be focussing on New World Wines.
On Monday 27 July we’re going to taste a selection of the whites and the following week on Monday 3 August it will be the reds.

I’m delighted to announce Lidl’s “Lead Taster” Master of Wine Richard Bampfield will also be joining us and co-presenting the event with me. Richard is great fun and being an MW he’s obviously hugely knowledgeable and a naturally engaging presenter. We will also have Chris Scott, Lidl’s Marketing Manager in Scotland on hand to answer any questions you have about Lidl. We had a lot of fun with the tastings at the beginning of June and this is set to be another great couple of tastings.
These tastings have always sold out well in advance so if you’d like to join us please book soon. The app we’ll be using is Zoom.
We’re choosing 6 wines for each of the tastings as follows;
White Wines
1. Axis Sauvignon/Semillon, Western Australia – £6.99
2. Sauvignon Blanc Gran Reserva, Leyda,Chile – £7.99
3. Outlook Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ – £8.49
4. The Pledge Sauvignon Blanc South Africa – £10.99
5. Chardonnay Gran Reserva, Casablanca, Chile – £6.99
6. Belmont Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc Blend, Western Cape, South Africa – £5.49
Red Wines
1. Outlook Bay Pinot Noir, Central Otago, NZ – £9.99
2. The Second Fleet Shiraz, Limestone Coast, Australia – £6.99
3. The Second Fleet Coonawarra blend, Australia – £6.99
4. Axis Cabernet Sauvignon, Western Australia – £6.99
5. Malbec Gran Reserva, Chile – £6.99
6. Gestos Malbec + Malbec Mendoza, Argentina – £7.99
As with all the Lidl Wine Tours each store will receive an allocation of the wines and once they’ve gone they’ve gone. There should be plenty of stock for at least the first two weeks after the launch, but sometimes if word gets out there is (as often there is) a particular favourite, then this is likely to sell out quickly.
During the tasting we’ll be giving you a brief overview of where the wines come from and a bit about the style or grape variety and then of course we’ll taste them. This style is much more of a Whistle Stop Tour around the range than the main tastings, the latest of which you can find here.
It’s completely up to you if you’d like to buy any or all of the wines to have ready to taste along with us. Alternatively, if you’d like to join us to find out what everyone else recommends then you’re welcome to. However, the more people who have one, two or even all six of the wines, the more interesting and fun it will be since everyone will enjoy hearing each other’s views. If you’ve tried or have any other favourites within the range we’d love to hear about these too.
It’s going to be both fun and informative and you’ll be able to ask Richard Bampfield MW any questions you may have regarding these wines. Both tastings will also be a great opportunity to experience a completely honest, independent and impartial review of these wines.
If you don’t currently have a wine saver pump you can order one of my new Wine Events Scotland branded Vacuvin Wine Saver Pumps below at the reduced price of £10 including postage (cost on Amazon is £11.69).
Trust you’re tempted to join us. The cost is just £10 per tasting and of course only one ticket per household is required. We’re limiting tickets so we’ll all stay on one PC screen. Each tasting session is expected to last about an hour.
