The region of Alsace produces some of the world’s best known and most loved aromatic wines. Whether it be the noble grapes of riesling, pinot gris or gewürztraminer or the region’s blends, the wines of Alsace have an ability to captivate and take drinkers on a journey like few others.
For this event, we are delighted to be joined by members of two of the region’s most famous wine families - Jean-Frédéric Hugel and Julien Trimbach - as well as Jo Locke MW, our buyer for Alsace, for what promises to be a wonderful journey through the history and wines of Alsace.
The Hugel family have been making wine in Riquewihr since 1639 and are members of the ‘Primum Familiae Vini’, a group comprising of some of the world’s leading wine producing families. Pioneers of late-harvest styles ‘vendange tardive’ and ‘Sélection de Grains Nobles’ as well as producing a vast selection of dry styles, the Hugel family continue to be proud ambassadors of the Alsace region and the range of wines it produces.
Similarly, the house of Trimbach in Ribeauvillé, north-west of Colmar, dates back to 1626. However, it was only in the late 19th century that they began to gain recognition and expand under the guidance of Frédéric-Emile Trimbach.?Since then, they have built their reputation on remarkable, dry steely rieslings of intense minerality and purity of flavour, as well as an expansive array of other classic varieties.
With both families having such long and esteemed histories, we are so excited to bring them together for this special event. Whether you are only just starting your exploration of the region, or are a regular visitor and drinker, there are no better families or more informed representatives than Jean-Frédéric and Julien to share your journey with.
