Simon Hardy DipWSET, the Swiss wine ambassador at 67 Pall Mall, is pleased to host Gilles Besse, winemaker and co-owner of the Domaine Jean-René Germanier.
Gilles and his uncle Jean-René Germanier have a joint passion for wine and the alpine terroir. Over the past 30 years they have produced a sizeable range of exceptional wines that have shaped the Domaine’s outstanding reputation in Switzerland and abroad.
Located in Balavaud, a hamlet at the heart of the Valais and the Rhône Valley famous for its warm, dry climate in the summer months, the domaine covers 147 hectares and produces around 900,000 bottles per year. Its ancient bicentennial vaulted cellar where the earliest vintages were pressed starting in 1896 is well worth the detour.
Their commitment to quality takes precedence over all else. They aim to make wines with good concentration and are in the vanguard of viticultural best practices, having pioneered the introduction of integrated production fifteen years ago. Over the past five years three estates have been converted and certified organic (Bio Suisse).
We will taste six wines and every order will include a special gift of a half-bottle of Petite Arvine 2019 to share with friends.
