Rustenberg is often considered one of the most beautiful estates in the Cape. The Barlow family have been there since the 1940s - reuniting two old estates (Schoongezicht and Rustenberg) which were divided in 1810.
But the impressive National Heritage Site is not a cover up for lacklustre wines. Instead the modern winery continues to produce standout wines, both white and red equally, that deliver year-in-year-out – so much so that buyer Jo Locke MW insists they give us magnums for members to enjoy double the pleasure.
Join Jo as she speaks with Murray, the next generation of Barlow’s at the helm of this historic estate. Having completed a Masters in Oenology from The University of Adelaide in Australia he now heads up the winemaking and has been awarded the Diner’s Club Young Winemaker of the Year Award twice (the only person to win it twice).
After what has been a challenging year for the South African wine world, we’re thrilled to have such a dynamic and passionate voice join us and we do hope you’ll raise a glass to him and Jo Locke for the evening (ideally of his wine, but hopefully South African at least).
