Jane Hunter, OBE is a charismatic ambassador for New Zealand wines, possessing in abundance the zestful, feisty and lively character of her country’s sauvignons.
Considered pioneers of the country, Jane and her late husband Ernie planted their first vines in Wairau Valley in Marlborough in 1979 when the potential of the area for producing world-class wines was unknown. During the 80s, these wines made their impact on the world and at the epicentre were the Hunters. Tragically, Ernie passed away in a car accident but since then Jane has made it her mission to grow the winery into the leading light it is today.
Sauvignon blanc remains the flagship wine of the estate, and Jane produces our much-loved Exhibition label Marlborough Sauvignon and we consider it amongst the best in the country. Alongside this we also stock her Miru Miru sparkling and the Rata and Stoneburn labels, offering brilliant value to members.
Alongside sauvignon blanc there are other plantings including riesling, pinot gris, gewürztraminer and pinot noir, which we often buy too.
Join buyer for New Zealand, Freddy Bulmer, in welcoming this truly iconic woman from the world of wine. You won’t need to have a glass of Jane’s wine to enjoy this session, but of course – it’s a delicious choice if you do!"
