Following on from our terroir-driven High Altitude wines event, we look at how incredible wines take on vast amounts of character from the islands they are grown on.
Bare, bleak and exposed to the wind, Islands can be a tough place to grow, well, anything. But challenges lead to clever solutions – we look at how vines have to be modified over the millenia to cope with the extreme conditions.
Islands often go hand in hand with volcanoes and ash or harsh, granitic bedrock. They also are exposed to salty spray that comes from the oceans.
In tonight's tasting, we go to some seriously cool places because of how individual they are. Lanzarote, Santorini, Sicily and Tasmania... there's a lot to talk about!
As usual we meet and interview with the people behind the wines and explain some of the science, but without bamboozling you with jargon!
