Vineyard Description

Across the verdant flats from Barnsole and along the winding lane that follows the meandering course of the river Stour, stand the mighty crumbling walls of the Roman fort of Richborough. It is here, in the garden of England, that the first Pinot Noir vines arrived with the Legions in 44 a.d.

Barnsole Vineyard perpetuates this viticultural tradition of two millennia by growing Pinot Noir, along with other grape varieties, to make quintessential English wines.

Tours and Tastings

Visitors are welcome to drop-in for a free mini-tour and tasting of the still wines at any time.

A full one hour guided tour - with the winemaker - can be booked in advance and carries the modest fee of £11.00 per adult.

The full tour includes an introductory sample of our sparkling wine (subject to availability), a talk about the history of wine, its arrival in England with the Romans and the current trends in the burgeoning English wine industry. We take a look at the vineyard and the winery and finish with a tasting of the still wines that are available for sale.
