World Malbec Day is April 17th, although for some reason it’s actually called Malbec World Day. Meanwhile the 7th May is International Sauvignon Blanc Day but due to all the disruption of the last 12 months we... In homage to both of these great occasions and both of these famous grapes, Manchester Wine School is proud to present a special one-off Saturday tasting in Manchester City Centre, in the historic and beautiful surroundings of Manchester’s Canton House (home to the famous Yang Sing Restaurant)
We’ll kick the day off with a sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, and finish with a fortified Malbec. In between, there will be several examples of both grapes from several different countries, in different styles and at a range of prices. Both Sauvignon and Malbec hail from France, but have become famous for their performance in countries that are thousands of miles away – how do the “Old World” examples stack up against their “New World” counterparts?
Over the course of the day, we’ll taste 12 wines on the day (yes 6 of each!) with a break in the middle for lunch.
Lunch will be served in the highly regarded and iconic Yang Sing restaurant. Serving exquisite dim sum and Cantonese cuisine, the Yang Sing offers cordial old school service; some contemporary takes on traditional Cantonese cooking and an enviable reputation as one of Manchester’s finest food institutions. Serving locally sourced produce and buying seasonally, Yang Sing is a grande dame of Manchester’s vibrant food and drink scene.
