This November & December, we’re inviting you to three tastings to help Manchester Wine School dispose of several bottles of classy wine that should have featured in tastings earlier in the year but which for obvious reasons didn’t.
In session 1 on November 20th, we'll take a look at Rieslings from Germany & Alsace - they come in similar-shaped bottles, but how and why are they different? Then we'll move on to three red Bordeaux from the prestigious appellations of St Emilion, Pomerol & Pessac-Léognan, before finishing with a mature Sauternes.
For session 2 on December 3rd, we'll take a look at two whites and a red from the country which arguably has the highest standard of wines in all of Europe, namely Austria. Then it's the turn of the Rhône, where there’ll be reds from both the North & South plus one white - there's a Condrieu in the MWS cellars in need of some thirsty tasters.
In the 3rd and final session on December 10th, we'll take a look at two of the most popular grapes around. We'll kick off with Chardonnay, and not the bimbo me-too style of the supermarket bottom shelf. Expect a couple of white Burgundies plus a classy New World interloper. With the Malbecs, again it'll be a head to head between Old World and New World, with France taking on South America - who'll come out on top? And can Chile offer Argentina competition in the Malbec department?
All the tastings will feature 7 wines including at least two with an RRP of £15+ and a further two costing £20+. The price of £27.50 per session is something of a bargain, but all three for £75 is a total steal!
