Resource Overview

For many years, Stellenbosch was highly regarded for its big, bold production of Bordeaux varietals and blends. In recent years, the rise in popularity of other wine regions (e.g. Swartland, Hemel-en-Aarde, Elgin) and a change in stylistic preference from consumers arguably drew the attention away from the region. Now, Stellenbosch wine is experiencing a resurgence. Wards within the region are exploring and expressing their unique identities and playing to their strengths, bringing nuance, focus and vision to their winemaking.
