Resource Overview

Wine writer and educator Elaine Chukan Brown speaks Graham Tatomer of Tatomer and Tyler Thomas, winemaker at Dierberg and Star Lane.
They start the harvest tour in the Central Coast, getting a behind the scenes look at the 2020 vintage with these two producers who together demonstrate the diversity of terroirs, grape varieties, and wine styles produced in this region. The three journey from southerly Santa Barbara County, northward to San Luis Obispo, and then Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County, reporting on the growing season and harvest across AVAs, and what signature marks 2020 has made on the wines: from light and fresh Riesling and Grüner Veltliner to bold and rich Bordeaux-style blends, and everything in between.

Featured Wines:
2017 Tatomer Riesling, Vandenberg, Santa Barbara County
2017 Star Lane Cabernet Sauvignon, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara
