Of course, wine is meant to be shared, and when tasted with the guidance of a professional wine specialist, the pleasure is even greater. That’s why wine tastings are so popular, they’re social events that allow everyone to exchange their impressions of wine, while they learn from others.
Virtual wine tastings from the comfort of your home might be the safest, and most comfortable way of enjoying wine, and although there are countless options out there, we’d love to tell you about some of our favourites. Below we’ve listed five hosts who are running some of the best virtual wine tasting events and experiences in the UK.
The Wine Society
From mastering Italian white wine and food pairings to discovering Chianti or Burgundy, The Wine Society offers an exciting event calendar for virtual wine tastings, mini masterclasses and winemaker events.
In the society’s own words, they’re all about “Integrity, authenticity and an insatiable curiosity to find the world’s most thrilling wines,” and we could all hop on that train. Not only a fantastic source for exceptional wine, The Wine Society is also committed to wine education, and with their extensive virtual program, they’re reaching to more people than ever.
“Integrity, authenticity and an insatiable curiosity to find the world’s most thrilling wines,”
London’s 67 Pall Mall wine club, at the heart of St. James, is well known for being a wine lover’s paradise offering exclusive wine with precise food pairings in grandiose scenarios.
The wine venue is now offering its lavish wine tasting experiences online via a virtual tasting club. For a £10 monthly fee, wine enthusiasts around the UK can explore exciting wine in a series of masterclasses. To follow your instructor, 75ml bottles of wine are available and are safely delivered to your doorstep.
Wine Time London
For a more spontaneous approach to virtual wine experiences, @WineTimeLondon, a relatively recent Instagram account with over 5,400 followers, offers all kinds of wine sessions, interviews with winemakers and much more through Instagram and IGTV.
Free for all, and more in-depth than you might think, these casual chats with some of the wine industry’s most prominent players are a fabulous way of learning a bit more about our favourite fermented drink without leaving home. Follow the hashtags #drinkingwith and #winesocial for more.
Wine Unearthed
As stated in their website, “Wine Unearthed is a leading provider of weekend wine education.” Their fun, casual approach to wine is captivating, but the quality of the material has won them awards.
For their online wine tasting sessions, you receive three wines at home, a wine notebook and access to a zoom session of about one hour each. Wine FUNdamentals, and regional sessions focusing on Australia, Italy and Australia allow you to master the world on wine from home.
Manchester Wine School
As part of Local Wine Schools, Manchester Wine School provides a complete wine virtual education program. From online WSET courses to wine tastings and virtual wine parties.
Masterclasses, food and wine pairing courses, and serious education programs, there’s something here for all experience levels, and the instructors have one hundred years of combined experience. It comes as no surprise that the Manchester Wine School has been named Wine Educator Year in the past.
These are all great virtual wine tastings you can enjoy with any level of wine knowledge. Get tasting and allow yourself to get bitten by the wine bug, or dig in deeper. If there something more satisfying than tasting wine to unveil its secrets, we don’t know what it is.
